President Donald Trump unveiled a $15 billion steel mill by Mesabi Metallics in eastern Iowa, a move that will create roughly 1,750 permanent jobs and add about $95 billion to the U.S. economy over the next decade.
The plant, the largest steel facility in U.S. history, will initially produce 7.5 million tons of steel per year, with potential expansion to 10 million tons, and will rely on iron ore from Mesabi’s newly opened Minnesota mine, the first U.S. iron‑ore mine in 50 years.
Iowa’s congressional delegation, led by Sen. Chuck Grassley and Sen. Joni Ernst, praised the investment as a “historic win” for Iowa workers and a boost to American manufacturing, thanking Governor Kim Reynolds for her leadership.
