Local butcher shops and meat processors share that they are seeing a notable uptick in customers seeking locally raised American beef.
The increased demand began shortly after President Donald Trump removed tariffs on 300,000 metric tons of foreign lean beef trimmings in early September.
Since then, butchers throughout Jasper County report a steady stream of customers wanting to purchase domestically sourced beef.
“We have seen an influx of customers calling and wanting to purchase locally raised beef, wanting to fill their own freezers for their family,” said Chris Cloud, owner of Cloud’s Meats in Carthage. “People have had questions in regard to, you know, where does your beef come from and those type of things.”
Cloud’s Meats sources beef from both local producers and other suppliers, but the shop works directly with customers to ensure they understand the origin of their meat.
