Well, after years of offshoring some of Harley-Davidson’s manufacturing—much to the displeasure of some, including the current US President and the brand’s own union—the Motor Co. is bringing its Revolution Max engine production to the United States. Yes, the 1250cc V-twin that powers the brand’s Pan America adventure motorcycle, as well as its Nightster, the returning Sportster, and maybe (hopefully) an upcoming cafe racer, will be American-powered in the very near future.
The move comes in the wake of Harley’s “Back to the Bricks” strategy switch-up, which includes a host of corrections, new initiatives, and more that newly minted CEO Artie Starrs has implemented in his short tenure, and are designed to right the Harley ship after years of decline. But in the context of the news today, “Back to the Bricks” means that Harley will be moving its production of the Revolution Max from Thailand to both its Wisconsin and Pennsylvania facilities, with a target of the first American-made motors coming to dealerships as 2028 models.
