Ford Motor Co. is rebuilding its Louisville Assembly Plant around a new vehicle assembly process that divides an electric vehicle into three major subassemblies that can be assembled simultaneously before being joined with bolts and adhesives.
The automaker is investing $2 billion to transform the 3-million-square-foot plant from production of gasoline-powered vehicles to assembly of the Ford Fathom midsize electric truck. Prototype builds using production-qualified parts are scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2027, with customer production following later in the year.
