The Southern Shrimp Alliance (SSA), a coalition of US Gulf of Mexico shrimp fishermen and processors, is asking for help from US lawmakers in curtailing government-funded marketing efforts it says support imported seafood over domestic seafood. “The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) should not use US tax dollars to promote the consumption of seafood imports that devastate America’s fishing communities,” the organization said in a recent monthly report to its members.
