Milwaukee Tools may have begun in Wisconsin, but it is now owned by Hong Kong-based (officially the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China) Techtronic Industries. Makita is based in Japan. Ownership matters since it determines where the profits go, where the taxes are paid, and which national economy ultimately benefits.
