DERMALOGICA FACES CLASS ACTION OVER ‘MADE IN USA’ LABELING CLAIMS

A class action lawsuit has been filed against Dermalogica LLC and parent company Conopco Inc. (Unilever), alleging that the skincare brand falsely labeled its cosmetic products as “Made in the USA.”

Filed in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, the lawsuit claims Dermalogica’s “Made in the USA” labeling is misleading because the products reportedly contain essential foreign-sourced ingredients. Plaintiff Steven Lavallee alleges the labeling is unqualified and deceptive, violating California’s Consumers Legal Remedies Act, Unfair Competition Law, and False Advertising Law, and breaching express warranty.

The lawsuit reflects increased legal pressure on beauty and personal care brands to clarify origin claims, particularly amid heightened scrutiny over consumer protection and product transparency in marketing practices.
