According to the alliance, imports of frozen shrimp nearly doubled in an eight-year span to 1.8 billion pounds. That influx has driven prices to the point where what shrimpers are paid for their catch doesn’t even cover the costs of fishing trips. There are many shoppers who look for the words “Made in the USA” when they purchase goods. Depending on the product, it may not be possible to always buy American. There is one area, however, where we not only can buy American, we can buy straight from local businesses — shrimp.
